Serhij Petrowytsch Lebid ( Ukrainian Сергій Петрович Лебідь , engl. Transcription Serhiy Lebid also Russian Сергей Лебедь , Sergei / Sergey Lebed ; * 15. July 1975 in Dnipropetrowsk , Ukrainian SSR ) is a Ukrainian long distance runner .

Life

He achieved his greatest successes at the European championships in cross country , where he has so far won nine golds, one silver and two bronze medals.

At the Cross Country World Championships he was eighth in 2000 and second in 2001.

He finished seventh in the 5000 meter run at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney , and the following year he won gold at the Universiade over the same distance . Bronze then followed at the European Championships in Munich in 2002 , but at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens he failed in the semifinals as well as at the 2005 World Championships in Helsinki .

In 2006 he was fifth in the 10,000 meter run at the European Championships in Gothenburg .

In December 2008 he became European Cross Country Champion in Brussels and he was able to repeat this success in Portugal in 2010.

Serhij Lebid started in London at the Olympic Games 2012 over 5000 meters, but retired in the preliminary run.

On April 20, 2014, he won the Nagano Marathon in 2:13:56 h. He set his personal best over the same distance in November of the same year. At the half marathon in Karlovy Vary in May 2018, at 1:05:08 h, he was only a good three minutes above his fifteen-year-old personal best in this discipline.
