Houilles is a French municipality with 32,151 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Yvelines in the region Ile-de-France . It is part of the arrondissement of Saint-Germain-en-Laye and the main town (chef-lieu) of the canton of the same name .

geography

Houilles is the easternmost commune of the Yvelines department. It is located between Sartrouville and Argenteuil , about 14 kilometers northwest of downtown Paris .

history

On October 9, 1920, a serious railway accident occurred in Houilles station when a suburban train from Paris drove into freight wagons that had recently been derailed and blocked its route. 47 people died.

Since 1972, the Corrida de Houilles has taken place at the end of the year, a road race over 10 km.
