museum

The Chasham Museum in Market Square

The Chesham Museum , which has existed since the 1990s, was realized on the initiative of Dr Arnold Baines and deals with the subject of the former industrial plants of Chesham. While it exhibited its exhibits from 38 different exhibitions in the city library from 1992 to 2002, the premises of the Gamekeeper's Lodge have been used since 2003 . In 2004 the museum received the status of a registered association . Since the inventory of exhibits was significantly increased and the exhibition area again proved to be too small, the museum moved again in 2009. Since then, the premises have been on Market Square . The museum is supported by volunteers, donations and the sale of antiques in the museum shop.

Transport links

Metropolitan Line train in the station

Chesham is connected to London by the Metropolitan Line of London Underground . Until 2012 there was only a half hour shuttle train to Chalfont & Latimer, where you had to change to a train from Amersham. With the new, continuously accessible S- Trains, all trains run to Baker Street, London, and many even continue to Aldgate, London.

Markets

On the marketplace

The Local Produce Market takes place once a month. It sells groceries and handicrafts from a maximum radius of 10 miles. The organizers set themselves the goal of ensuring more sustainability by supporting regional foods and reducing the number of journeys for products.

The general market is the market with the widest range of goods. It takes place two days a week and is organized by the Amersham and Chesham Market Co-operative of the Chiltern District.

In addition, the street market takes place monthly. Recycled and home-made products are sold as the goal of the Better Chesham organizers is more creativity from, especially young, people. This is supported, among other things, by a mentoring program.

education

The Chesham Grammar School , which is located not far from the city center in a northeastern residential area, makes an important contribution to school education in the Chiltern District .

population

In 2001 Chesham had 20,343 residents. By 2015 this had already risen to over 21,000 inhabitants. This makes Chesham the largest city in the district.

Twin cities

Chesham has been a twin town to Houilles in France since 1986 and to Friedrichsdorf since 1990 . There is also a partnership with the Spanish municipality of Archena in the Murcia region .
