Triel-sur-Seine is a French commune with 11,892 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Yvelines in the region Ile-de-France . Its inhabitants are called Triellois .

Triel on the banks of the Seine

Triel-sur-Seine is twelve kilometers northwest of Saint-Germain-en-Laye and 35 kilometers northwest of Paris on the right bank of the Seine .

The neighboring municipalities, clockwise, are Jouy-le-Moutier and Maurecourt in the northeast, Chanteloup-les-Vignes in the east, Carrières-sous-Poissy in the south, Villennes-sur-Seine and Médan in the southwest, Vernouillet and Verneuil-sur-Seine in the west and Vaux-sur-Seine in the north-west.

history

The name Triellum possibly refers to the existence of three islands in the Seine. In 1221 Philip II declared the place a Ville affranchie .

From the end of the 18th century, gypsum was mined on site . In 1956 a 200 m long suspension bridge went into operation, replacing a toll bridge that was destroyed in 1940.

Triel-sur-Seine maintains city partnerships with Seligenstadt since 1967 and Leatherhead since 2004/05.
