Constitutional conflict in Hanover

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hanoverian constitutional conflict was a breach of the constitution that occurred in the Kingdom of Hanover in 1837 .

King Ernst August , who took over the reign in 1837, had already spoken out against the constitutional law of 1833 before taking office , which established a constitutional monarchy and, according to Ernst August, abandoned monarchical rulers' rights.

When he came to power, he adjourned the state parliament in order not to have to take the constitutional pledge to the constitution. With a royal patent, he announced a little later that he did not feel bound by the constitution. Finally, he put the 1819 constitution back into force.

A part of the Göttingen professors, especially the Göttingen Seven (see there), who were relieved of their office, turned against this.
