history

"Old episode"

The Hanover history sheets were founded in 1898 by Friedrich Tewes , the chairman was the " Association for the history of the city of Hanover " founded in the same year . The magazine, which was initially published weekly, summarized the communications and publications of numerous historically oriented associations in Hanover and the surrounding area.

An additional co-initiator was Otto Jürgens , who later became the director of the Hanover City Archives , who also became the publisher from 1901. During Jürgens' term of office (until 1929), the "HG" developed into a forum for Hanoverian city history researchers with monthly, later quarterly publications.

In 1904 the work was subtitled as

"Journal of the Association for the History of the City of Hanover, the Geographical Society, the Association for Newer Languages, the Plattdütschen Association, the Museum Association for the Principality of Lüneburg, the Association for the History of Göttingen, the Association for the History and Antiquities of the City of Einbeck and In the vicinity, the Museum Association in Harburg and the Museum Association in Hameln. "

From April 1, 1929, the last issues of the later so-called "Old Series" fell into the term of office of Karl Friedrich Leonhardt : The last issue of this series was number 2 for the year 1932, which was published in 1931.

New episode (NF)

Leonhardt founded the "New Series" (HG NF) with numerous improvements in appearance. In 1937 he then transferred the "Association for the History of the City of Hanover" and the HG to the Historical Association for Lower Saxony .

The last volume before the Second World War appeared as "Volume 5, 1938".

It was not until 1952 that Herbert Mundhenke , the head of the city archives at the time (from the beginning of 1951), was able to re-establish the HG NF and continue the count with "Volume 6". In the decades that followed, the Hanover history sheets developed into a yearbook and at the same time as a members' magazine for the Historical Association for Lower Saxony ( ISSN  0342-1104 ).
