Grietherort is a settlement in the Bienen district of the city of Rees in the Kleve district in North Rhine-Westphalia . From 1958 to 1969 Grietherort was an independent municipality in what was then Rees County . Most of Grietherort belongs to the Grietherorter Altrhein nature reserve .

geography

Grietherort is located on an island that was artificially created in 1819 by a puncture of the Rhine. The main stream at that time became the Grietherorter Altrhein , which now flows east of Grietherort , while what was known as the Griether Canal at the time became today's main stream. Like Grietherbusch on the Bienener Altrhein , Grietherort is only sparsely populated and has a purely agricultural character. The natural values of the area are high.

history

Until 1819 Grietherort was still on the left bank of the Rhine. Even after the Rhine breakthrough, Grietherort remained part of the municipality of Grieth , which belonged to the Kleve district, as a place on the right bank of the Rhine . On April 1, 1958, Grietherort formed its own parish, which was assigned to the Vrasselt district of Rees. On July 1, 1969, Grietherort was incorporated into the city of Rees by the law for the reorganization of municipalities in the Rees district.
