Karljosef Kreter (also: Karljo , KJ or K. Kreter ) (born January 12, 1955 in Warburg ) is a German archivist , author and editor . He works on the city history of Hanover .

Life

Karljosef Kreter was born as the third of four children to a Höxter councilor and a housewife. He grew up in Warburg and attended his first schools there, but passed his Abitur in 1974 at the Albert Schweitzer School in Hofgeismar . In the same year he began his studies at the Georg August University in Göttingen in the subjects of philosophy with Günther Patzig , history with Helga Grebing and education . In 1978 he received a scholarship from the Friedrich Ebert Foundation. He completed his studies in 1980 with the 1st state examination for higher teaching qualifications in the subjects of history and philosophy, as well as another state examination as an educational scientist.

Kreter then completed the teacher traineeship at the study seminar I in Hanover, where he was trained from 1982 to 1983 as a study assessor for teaching. However, since the prospects for a position as a teacher were not very promising at the time, Kreter worked as an employee in Bad Nenndorf from 1984 to 1985 on the establishment of a joint community archive before he was given new tasks in the Hanover city archive in 1986. Then the city of Hanover trained him from 1987 to 1989 in Osnabrück, Marburg and Koblenz as an assessor for the archives service (trainee archivist). He then worked as the deputy head of the Hanover City Archives.

In 1996 Kreter wrote his dissertation on urban historical culture and historiography at the University of Hanover - where Gerhard Schneider accepted him among his “alumni” . The image of the city of Hanover in the mirror of its history from the beginnings to the loss of urban autonomy .

Kreter took a critical look at traditional academic archivist training, especially at the Marburg archive school . In addition, he wrote works on the history of the city of Hanover .

After Karljosef Kreter temporarily headed the Hanover City Archives and there the exhibition " Schiller's Traces in Hanover", which was shown in 2009, he has been head of the "Urban Remembrance Culture" project of the state capital Hanover, department of education and qualification, since 2009. The project is also a member of the Remembrance and Future Network in the Hanover Region .
