Hans-Jürgen Hermel
Hans-Jürgen Hermel (* 15. October 1935 in Berlin ; † 14. February 2017 in Hannover ) was a German TV - journalist at the Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR), entrepreneur and documentarian and filmmaker for the labor movement and the crimes of National Socialism and promoter of Ahlem Memorial .
Life
Even as a child born in 1935 Hans-Jürgen Hermel experienced the era of National Socialism and the Second World War , periods, the horrors he later through more than 200 interviews with witnesses and survivors of the Holocaust and other victims of Nazi persecution as Sinti and forced laborers hold and for Posterity should receive.
After working as an editor for culture and society at the NDR until his retirement and managing the regional magazine Hallo Niedersachsen , among other things , Hans-Jürgen Hermel has been committed to the culture of remembrance since the 1990s. Together with his son, the historian Shaun Hermel , he freelanced the company Memomedia Production to produce his films and video documentations . Hermel was a long-time member and editor of the radio broadcasts Zeitreisen and CVs at Radio Flora .
In particular, however, Hans-Jürgen Hermel was a long-time member and, since 2006, the first chairman of the Ahlem Memorial Association. V. in Hanover. He played a key role in founding the Remembrance and Future Network in the Hanover Region , which works closely with the state capital and the Hanover region . The memorial Ahlem left Hermel 160 collected interviews with witnesses for the 2014 opened multimedia exhibition space with outside facilities of the former director of the house of the Israelite School of Horticulture Ahlem. In addition, Hermel regularly took part in lectures, discussions, discussions with contemporary witnesses, readings and guided tours of today's memorial.
