Otto Jürgens (archivist)
Otto Theodor Friedrich Louis Jurgens (* 18th February 1862 in Hannover ; † 11. December 1929 ) was a German archivist , librarian and as a library director head of the city archives Hannover and the City Library Hannover .
Career
Otto Jürgens graduated from Lyzeum I ( Ratsgymnasium ) in Hanover in 1881 . After studying history and philology in Leipzig , Tübingen and Göttingen from 1882 to 1886, he completed his dissertation with the state sovereignty in the Principality of Lüneburg at the beginning of the War of Succession (1371) .
In April 1890 he was given a permanent position as head of the Hanover City Archives, and in parallel in 1893 as head of the Hanover City Library.
Otto Jürgens was a major co-founder of the Association for the History of the City of Hanover , which published the Hanover History Papers as an association magazine. On April 1, 1929, Jürgens was retired.
