Karl Friedrich Leonhardt
Karl Friedrich Leonhardt (born March 11, 1882 in Linden ; † June 15, 1940 in Hanover ) was a German archivist , historian , author and director of the Hanover City Archives .
Leonhardt is still considered to be the best expert on the Hanoverian topography and the Hanover genealogy . He founded the new series (NF) of the Hannoversche Geschichtsblätter (HG) and was chairman of the heraldic association "Zum Kleeblatt" , the association that supports the Lower Saxony coat of arms .
family
Karl Friedrich Leonhardt was the great-grandson of the publisher Friedrich Bernhard Culemann and the grandson of the entrepreneur, politician and art collector Friedrich Culemann . He was the son of Karl-Moritz Leonhardt, a businessman who worked for Lindener Mechanischen Weberei , who took over the Culemann'sche printing company, which was founded in 1799, from his late father-in-law in 1886.
Career
Karl Friedrich Leonhardt graduated from Lyceum I ( Ratsgymnasium ) in Hanover in 1901 with the Abitur. After initially studying law, he switched to history, archeology and art history in Göttingen , Berlin , Leipzig and Heidelberg . He received his doctorate in 1912 .
From autumn 1919 Leonhardt initially worked in his father's company and in 1923 became its commercial director.
Under the chief editor Paul Siedentopf , Leonhard compiled the image material for The Book of the Old Companies of the City of Hanover in 1927 , which was published by the anniversary publisher Walter Gerlach in Leipzig.
As the successor to Otto Jürgens , Leonhardt became head of the Hanover City Archives on April 1, 1929, and was appointed archive director on June 15 of that year.
Among other things, Leonhardt created a map as an excerpt from the city map of Hanover , reduced to the area around the old town and the Calenberger Neustadt with the historical streets from 1300 and - highlighted by red drawings - the streets and important building outlines around 1900.
