Herbert Mundhenke

Herbert Mundhenke (born April 29, 1915 in Seelze ; † June 9, 1997 in Hanover ) was a German historian , author and archivist and for many years head of the Hanover City Archives .

Career

After graduating from the Ratsgymnasium in Hanover, Mundhenke studied history, Latin, Polish and historical auxiliary sciences in Marburg , Königsberg and Göttingen from 1934. He completed his studies in 1939 with the state examination and received his doctorate on the Adelebsen Patrimonial Court .

After serving as a soldier in World War II , he attended the Marburg Archive School in 1949/50 .

From 1951 to 1977 he was director of the Hanover City Archives. At times in parallel, he was chairman of the working group of Lower Saxony municipal archivists from 1969 to 1975 and chairman of the Lower Saxony State Association for Family Studies from 1974 to 1982 .
