The donumenta is a festival that annually since 2003 in Regensburg takes place and as "International anchorage for art and culture of the Danube countries " and 2003-2011 respectively, the current contemporary art of a Danube riparian State showed. In 2012, the makers extended the focus to the entire Danube region.

purpose

The festival is intended to play a key role in the cultural understanding between Eastern and Western Europe since European unification after 1989. Many artists have been given the opportunity to present their current works in Germany for the first time. The selection of the host countries was based on the connecting river of the Danube as a sign of cross-border intercultural cooperation. The guest countries were the Ukraine in 2003 , the Republic of Moldova in 2004 , Bulgaria in 2005 , Austria in 2006 , Romania in 2007 , Croatia in 2008 , Slovakia in 2009 , Hungary in 2010 and Serbia in 2011 . In 2012 the festival presented current art from the 14 Danube countries as part of a reorientation based on the strategy of the European Union for the Danube region .

execution

The donumenta takes place every autumn in the Danube city of Regensburg and was initiated in 2003 by the artist Regina Hellwig-Schmid . It has already received several awards for its commitment across Europe, including the 2006 medal for special services to Bavaria in a United Europe . In cooperation with curators from the respective host country, exhibitions on various art forms, readings, concerts, dance and theater were presented annually from 2003 to 2011. Donumenta's partners include the Ostdeutsche Galerie art forum , various chairs at the University of Regensburg , the Goethe Institute , the Association of German Writers and other organizations from Regensburg and beyond. On the occasion of the host country Romania 2007, Die Zeit wrote: "... The donumenta every autumn is about international understanding, cultural dialogue and exchange between the Danube countries. Ukraine and Austria, for example, have already introduced themselves, now it is Romania's turn , whose young art and cultural scene is not well known in this country .... "In 2012 the show will focus on the current visual arts of the 14 Danube countries.

donumenta 2003, guest country Ukraine

The donumenta 2003 took place from September 23rd to November 9th. Several exhibitions, beginning with “Crimean Sect, Chernobyl, Klitschko Brothers - From Everyday Life in Ukraine and the Search for Cultural Identity”, continuing to painting, photography, performance, installation and mixed media, gave visitors an impression of contemporary Ukrainian art. A film program, readings by Ukrainian writers, a series of concerts, a DanceNight and a cooking course seminar “Ukrainian cuisine - hearty and down-to-earth” rounded off the program. The patrons were Emilia Müller (MEP) and the Lord Mayor of Regensburg, Hans Schaidinger .

The donumenta 2004 took place from October 1st to November 14th. The patron was Viviane Reding , EU Commissioner for Education and Culture.

donumenta 2005, host country Bulgaria

The donumenta 2005 took place from September 30th to October 30th, 2005 in the rooms of the municipal gallery "Leerer Beutel" and the Historisches Museum Regensburg. In addition, there were installations in public space in Regensburg for the first time. The exhibition "Bulgaria. Life Stories, Lifestyle, Lifestyles", which was realized in cooperation with the Chair of Comparative Cultural Studies at the University of Regensburg, showed problem-oriented, problem-oriented, everyday national identification figures, life plans and solution strategies.

The donumenta 2006 took place from September 22 to October 15, 2006 under the motto "Bytes & Bodies - of real bodies in digital spaces" in the municipal gallery "Empty Bag" and in public space.
