Science Center East and Southeast Europe Regensburg
The Science Center East and Southeast Europe Regensburg (short form: WiOS) is a cooperation of the Leibniz Institute for East and Southeast European Research (IOS), the Institute for Eastern Law (IOR), the Hungaricum - Hungarian Institute (HUI) and the Research Center Deutsch in Mittel -, Eastern and Southeastern Europe (Fz DiMOS). These investigate and provide information about economic, legal, political, linguistic and historical developments in the countries of Eastern and Southeastern Europe .
Emergence
On March 12, 2002, the Bavarian Council of Ministers decided to move the three non-university institutions, the Institute for Eastern Law, the Eastern European Institute and the Southeast Institute, from Munich to Regensburg . There, in cooperation with the University of Regensburg, a center for East and Southeast European research was to be established. In August and September 2007, the three institutes moved into the building of the old tax office in Regensburg, which now belongs to the university. In October 2009 the Hungarian Institute was also relocated from Munich to Regensburg. On January 1, 2012, the newly founded Institute for East and Southeast European Studies emerged from the East European Institute and the Southeast Institute. The Fz DiMOS later joined. The IOS has been part of the Leibniz Association since 2017 .
Library
With around 340,000 volumes, the library in the Science Center for Eastern and Southeastern Europe is the third largest in the city of Regensburg and, alongside the state libraries in Berlin and Munich and the library of the Herder Institute, one of the largest special libraries in Eastern Europe. She is involved in the virtual library for Eastern Europe and the specialist portal IREON .
Events
As part of the Regensburg Lectures on Eastern Europe, there have been monthly events since October 2008 during the lecture period.
