The heptathlon for women in the 1999 World Championships in Athletics was on 21 and 22 August 1999 at the Olympic Stadium of the Spanish city of Seville discharged.
World champion was Eunice Barber , who completed her first competition for France here after having previously started for Sierra Leone . She had triumphed in the long jump at the 1995 African Games . In second place came the British vice world champion from 1997 , Olympic third from 1996 and reigning European champion Denise Lewis . Bronze went to the Syrian Olympic champion from 1996, world champion from 1995 and Asian champion from 1991 Ghada Shouaa . Only three points back was the two-time world champion ( 1991 /1997), two-time European champion ( 1990 / 1994 ) and Olympic bronze medalist of 1992 Sabine Braun of Germany on the medal loose fourth.
