Shelia Burrell

Shelia Burrell (born January 15, 1972 in Albuquerque ) is a former American heptathlete .

From 1995, when she was eighth in the US championships with 5737 points, until 1998 she fought her way to the top of the world. At the US Championships in 1998 she was second with a score of 6294 points. In 1999 she became US champion for the first time and started at the 1999 World Athletics Championships in Seville. Here she was eleventh with 6162 points.

At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000, she was injured in the high jump and remained without points in this. She still finished the entire competition, but only came in 26th place with 5345 points. A year later she achieved the greatest success of her career. With her personal best of 6472 points, she won the bronze medal at the 2001 World Athletics Championships in Edmonton.

In 2002 and 2003 she was US champion in the heptathlon twice in a row, but could not take part in the 2003 World Championships in Paris / Saint-Denis due to injury . After winning the US Olympic Trials the following year, she went to Athens, where she finished fourth at the 2004 Olympic Games with 6194 points.

Shelia Burrell has a competition weight of 66 kg with a height of 1.73 m.
