The heptathlon for women in the 1997 World Championships in Athletics was born on August 3 and 4, 1997 in the Olympic Stadium of the Greek capital Athens held.
The winner was the German World Champion 1991 , Vice World Champion 1993 , Olympic medalist in 1992 and two-time European champion ( 1990 / 1994 ) Sabine Braun . The British Olympic third party in 1996 Denise Lewis won the silver medal. Bronze went to Remigija Nazarovienė from Lithuania .

Denise Lewis became vice world champion in 1996 - she won numerous other medals and victories in the years to come
Eunice Barber, here still for Sierra Leona, later for France, did not compete on the second day - she was later very successful as a long jumper and heptathlete
