The women's triple jump at the 1997 World Athletics Championships was held on August 2nd and 4th, 1997 in the Olympic Stadium in the Greek capital, Athens .
The Czech Olympic third party from 1996 Šárka Kašpárková became world champion . Second place went to the Romanian Rodica Mateescu . Bronze went to Olena Howorowa from Ukraine .

In the final on August 4th, two national records were set.
- 15.16 m - Rodica Mateescu ( Romania )
- 14.62 m - Olga Vasdeki ( Greece )
doping
There was one doping case in this competition: Oksana Zelinskaya , a Kazakh who was
eliminated in the qualification, was convicted of having doped with ephedrine after her competition and was disqualified.
Since she did not reach the final, there were no particular disadvantages for her competitors in this case.
Wind conditions
In the following summary of results, the wind conditions for the respective jumps are named. The permitted limit is two meters per second. With stronger wind support, the distance will be counted for the competition, but will not be included in the lists of records and the best.

qualification
August 2, 1997, 8:20 a.m.
Forty participants competed in two groups for the qualifying round. The qualification distance for the direct entry into the final was 14.25 m. Ten athletes exceeded this mark (highlighted in light blue). The final field was filled with the next two athletes to twelve jumpers (highlighted in light green). So finally 14.17 m had to be achieved to take part in the finals.
