39 participants competed in two groups for the qualifying round. The qualification distance for the direct entry into the final was 8.05 m. Four athletes exceeded this mark (highlighted in light blue). The final field was filled with the eight athletes placed next to twelve jumpers (highlighted in light green). So finally 7.93 m had to be achieved for the final. Another athlete, like the participant, had achieved 7.93 m in twelfth place, but was classified in thirteenth place after applying the rule for further differentiation via the second best attempt and could not take part in the final.
