The Long Jump Men at the 2001 World Championships in Athletics was on 9 and 11 August 2001 at Commonwealth Stadium, the Canadian city of Edmonton held.
The Cuban Iván Pedroso became world champion for the fourth time in a row. Last year he was also an Olympic champion . He won ahead of the American Savanté Stringfellow . Bronze went to the Portuguese Carlos Calado .

Wind conditions
In the following summary of results, the wind conditions for the individual jumps are named. The permitted limit is two meters per second. With stronger wind support, the distance will be counted for the competition, but will not be included in the lists of records and the best.
Among the valid jumps there was only one with a wind support above the permissible value. When the fourth -placed American Miguel Pate jumped 8.21 m, the tail wind was 2.7 m / s.

qualification
August 9, 2001, 9:10 p.m.
28 participants competed in two groups for the qualification round. The qualification distance for direct entry into the final was 8.15 m. Two athletes exceeded this mark (highlighted in light blue). The final field was filled with the ten next-placed athletes to twelve jumpers (highlighted in light green). In the end, 7.83 m had to be achieved to take part in the finals.

Iván Pedroso - gold at world championships for the fourth time in a row , last year also Olympic champion
James Beckford, both silver at the 1995 World Championships and the 1996 Olympic Games , was seventh - in 1997 he had to serve a short-term suspension because of a positive test for ephedrine
