The 100-meter hurdles for women in the 2001 World Championships in Athletics was from 9 to 11 August 2001 Commonwealth Stadium the Canadian city of Edmonton held.
In this competition, the US hurdlers achieved a double victory. Anjanette Kirkland
became world champion . She won before the highly decorated real favorite Gail Devers , two-time world champion in this discipline ( 1995 / 1999 ) and two-time World silver medalist ( 1991 / 1993 ). In addition, Devers was 100 meters two-time Olympic champion ( 1992 / 1996 ) and world champion of 1993. In addition, it had for gold as a member of the sprint relay at the 1996 Olympics and the 1997 World Championships given.
Bronze went to the current Olympic champion and vice world champion from 1995, Olga Schischigina from Kazakhstan .

The world championship record, which has existed since 1987, remained unaffected at these world championships.
The existing world annual record has been improved twice:
- 12.56 s - Gail Devers ( USA ), 2nd semi-finals on August 10 with a headwind of 0.3 m / s
- 12.42 s - Anjanette Kirkland (USA), final on August 11th with a tailwind of 2.0 m / s that was just allowed
doping
There was a doping case in the hurdles sprint.
The Russian Swetlana Laukowa , who was eliminated in the semifinals, was disqualified for a doping violation.
An athlete who had acquired the right to start in the semifinals via the time rule, but was eliminated in the third preliminary run, was disadvantaged:

The preliminary round was held in four runs. The first three athletes per run - highlighted in light blue - as well as the four fastest runners - highlighted in light green - qualified for the semi-finals.
