The 4-by-400-meter relay for women at the 2001 World Athletics Championships was held on August 6 and 7, 2001 in the Commonwealth Stadium in the Canadian city of Edmonton .
World champion was Jamaica with the cast Sandie Richards , Catherine Scott . Debbie-Ann Parris (final) and Lorraine Fenton (final) as well as Deon Hemmings and Michelle Burgher, who were also used in the preliminary run .
Second place went to Germany ( Florence Ekpo-Umoh , Shanta Ghosh , Claudia Marx , Grit Breuer ).
Bronze went to Russia with Irina Rossichina , Julija Nosowa (final), Anastassija Kapatschinskaja and Olesja Sykina as well as Natalja Schewzowa, who was also used in the preliminary run .
The runners who were only used in the preliminary run also received the corresponding precious metal. In contrast, only the athletes who actually ran were entitled to records.

The US season was in the lead on the last change. However, last runner Suziann Reid dropped the baton immediately after the change and lost a lot of time.
