doping
Due to a positive doping result from the runner Tosin Adeloye, the Nigerian relay team - initially in fifth place - was disqualified and excluded from participation in the 2016 Olympic Games . Above all, the team from Italy was at a disadvantage, as it was deprived of participation in the final because Nigeria should not have started there. But since the evidence of doping fraud could not be provided until later, this could in fact not be changed.
Prelims
From the two preliminary runs, the first three of each run - highlighted in light blue - and the two fastest times - highlighted in light green - qualified for the semifinals.

final
August 30, 2015, 1220:05 local time (14:05 CEST )
At the World Championships and Olympic Games in recent years, the Americans have always won this season. But this year the runners from Jamaica had finished third to sixth in the individual finals over 400 meters , so that Jamaica was slightly favored in the race. The battle for the bronze medal was mainly expected between European champions France and the relays from Russia and Great Britain that were strong in the run-up.
The following line-up changes were made in the final:
- Jamaica - Stephenie Ann McPherson and Novlene Williams-Mills replaced Anastasia Le-Roy and Chrisann Gordon.
- USA - Natasha Hastings ran for Phyllis Francis, Allyson Felix for Jessica Beard.
- United Kingdom - Kirsten McAslan has been replaced by Christine Ohuruogu.
- Russia - Nadezhda Kotlyarova ran instead of Marija Michailjuk, Xenija Ryschowa instead of Jekaterina Renschina.
- Ukraine - Natalija Lupu and Natalija Pyhyda replaced Julija Olischewska and Olha Bibik.
- Canada - Audrey Jean-Baptiste ran for Nicole Sassine.
Jamaica was already in the lead after the first change. Starting runner Christine Day had a clear lead over her opponents. Natasha Hastings for the USA and Anyika Onuora for Great Britain started the race on the second lap sharply and shortened the gap to Jamaica with Shericka Jackson. But Jackson broke away from her opponents in the finish curve and passed the baton on to Stephenie McPherson, the third runner for Jamaica, with a lead of more than ten meters. The USA and Great Britain continued to be close together in second and third place. The British Eilidh Child had to let Allyson Felix, the third US runner, go. Felix reduced the distance to McPherson noticeably and even pulled past her on the home stretch.
The US final runner Francena McCorory started the race against the Jamaican Novlene Williams-Mills by a narrow margin. The distance to the third-placed British women with Seren Bundy-Davies was more than twenty meters. Behind it it was closer, the Russians were not yet defeated in the battle for bronze. McCorory was able to run out of a small gap against Williams-Mills in the target curve, it almost looked like a victory for the Americans. Bundy-Davies meanwhile increased the distance to the squadrons behind her. On the home stretch, McCorory ran out of strength, Williams-Mills passed her shortly before the finish and secured Jamaica the world title ahead of the United States. Britain eventually won bronze, ahead of Russia, Ukraine, France and Canada. The relay from Nigeria was disqualified for doping fraud of their runner Tosin Adeloye.
