That this race would be close had already become apparent in the heats and semifinals. Some runners, who came from the second row, showed with personal bests that they had in some cases significantly improved and that they could be expected. The field of favorites was close together. The Australian Olympic champion from 2012 and vice world champion from 2013 Sally Pearson was not among the participants due to an injury. The US Olympic champion in 2008 , Olympic runner-up in 2012 and World Cup fourth in 2013, Dawn Harper Nelson, was eliminated in the semifinals. The favorites were primarily the US defending champion Brianna Rollins as well as the British World Cup third in 2013 and reigning European champion Tiffany Porter. In addition, there were the athletes who had presented themselves particularly well in the semifinals. These were mainly the Jamaican Danielle Williams, the US American Sharika Nelvis and the Belarusian Alina Talaj, the 2012 European champion .

Porter and D. Williams, who were ahead, presented themselves particularly quickly in the final. Porter developed an easy lead up to the halfway point. Behind them followed the two Americans Rollins and Sharika Nelvis. But as the goal got closer, the field shrank more and more. Porter lost her rhythm a little at the last hurdles, so that Danielle Williams overtook her and became world champion. With 12.57 s she improved her personal best again. Right on the inside on lane two, Talaj got stronger and stronger in the end, but outside on lane eight, the German Cindy Roleder in particular stormed far forward. Just two hundredths of a second behind D. Williams, she won the silver medal and improved her personal best from the semifinals again. Seven hundredths of a second after Roleder, Alina Talaj came third and set a new Belarusian national record. Behind them, Brianna Rollins and Tiffany Porter were fourth and fifth. There was only a hundredth of a second between places three, four and five. Sixth was Noemi Zbären from Switzerland ahead of Shermaine Williams from Jamaica. Sharika Nelvis had just let her run slow down and came in eighth place.
