Michelle Jenneke (born June 23, 1993 in Kenthurst ) is an Australian hurdler who specializes in the 100 meter distance .
Athletic career
Michelle Jenneke played her first competition at international championships at the 2010 Youth Oceania Championships in Sydney , where she won the bronze medal in the 100 meters and the gold medals in the 100 meter hurdles and with the Australian 4 x 100 meter relay. She also took part in the first-ever Youth Olympic Games in Singapore , where she won the silver medal in the hurdles. In 2012 she qualified for the Junior World Championships in Barcelona , where she finished fifth in the hurdles sprint. Two years later she took part in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow , Australia , where she also came in fifth.
In 2015, the mechatronics student from the University of Sydney took part in the Student World Games in Gwangju , South Korea , where she won the bronze medal. She also qualified for the World Championships in Beijing , where she reached the semifinals . In 2016 she took part in the World Indoor Championships in Portland , where she was eliminated as 10th in the preliminary run in the first round. Furthermore, she qualified for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , in which she was eliminated with 13.26 s in the run . In 2017 she again took part in the World Championships in London and reached the semi-finals there again . At the World Student Games in Taipei two weeks later, she finished eighth in the final. In 2018 at the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham , she reached the semifinals, in which she was eliminated with 8.22 seconds. In early April she was fourth in the Commonwealth Games in her native Gold Coast in 13.07 s. She then finished eighth in the 2018 Athletics Continental Cup in Ostrava in 13.50 seconds.
In 2016 Jenneke became Australian champion in the hurdles sprint and in 2018 with the 4 x 100 meter relay.

particularities
Michelle Jenneke caught the media's attention in 2012 in Barcelona for her "Warmup Dance", which she has performed before each of her starts. While other athletes tend to concentrate in the seconds before the starting shot, Jenneke danced happily and to the delight of the audience.
