doping

There was one doping case in this competition: Moroccan Nader Belhanbel, who initially came in seventh in the finals, was convicted of taking banned substances during follow-up checks in 2017 and subsequently disqualified.

Belhanbel did not win a medal, so there were no disadvantaged athletes who would have received their medal later. But the Moroccan reached the final, which distorted competition. In the preliminary round the Slovenian Žan Rudolf would have qualified for the semifinals via the time rule, in the semifinals the same applied to the Pole Marcin Lewandowski. These two athletes were prevented from reaching the next round due to Belhanbel's doping fraud.

Prelims

After finishing fourth in the first run, the German Robin Schembera missed by one place the semi-finals
Jamal Hairane from Qatar was eliminated after finishing sixth in his preliminary run
The Slovene Žan Rudolf would have been eligible to start in the semifinals during his time, the doped Moroccan Nader Belhanbel took that place away from him
The Swede Andreas Almgren finished sixth in his preliminary run and was eliminated
The Briton Michael Rimmer failed as fourth in the sixth heat in the preliminary round

From the six preliminary runs, the first three of each run - highlighted in light blue - and also the six fastest - highlighted in light green - qualified for the semifinals.

final

August 25, 2015, 8:55 p.m. (2:55 p.m. CEST )

The favorite for this final was Olympic champion David Rudisha from Kenya, who, in contrast to the 2013 World Championships, was there again. His strongest opponents were the reigning world champion Mohammed Aman from Ethiopia. who was disqualified in the semifinals due to a disability, and the Polish European Champion Adam Kszczot.

In contrast to the Olympic Games in London , Rudisha did not run away from the top here. Although he ran in the leading position with his compatriot Ferguson Cheruiyot Rotich at his side, the pace of 54.15 s for the first lap was extremely moderate. The field stayed close behind the two Kenyans in rows of two or even three. Then it got faster on the back straight of the final lap. Rudisha forced himself, inside Kszczot tried an attack, which Rudisha countered immediately. From the finish curve, Rudisha continued as the leader onto the home straight, Kszczot followed closely behind him, followed by Rotich, the Frenchman Pierre-Ambroise Bosse and Amel Tuka from Bosnia and Herzegovina. In the last hundred meters, David Rudisha was the fastest and also prevailed in this lane race. Adam Kszczot was vice world champion. Amel Tuka secured the bronze medal with a strong final fifty meters ahead of Ferguson Cheruiyot Rotich and Pierre-Ambroise Bosse.
