Mohammed Aman Istanbul 2012

At the World Championships 2011 in Daegu Aman was eighth. A short time later he was third at the World Challenge Meeting in Rieti and improved the Ethiopian record over 800 meters and the youth world best to 1: 43.37 min. At the Notturna di Milano he surprisingly beat the reigning world champion and world record holder David Lekuta Rudisha from Kenya. After 34 wins in a row, it was Rudisha’s first defeat since August 2009.

In 2012, Aman won the 800-meter World Indoor Championships in Istanbul . At the Olympic Games in London he ran a new personal best with 1: 43.20 min. This was enough in the exceptionally fast final run, which David Rudisha won in world record time, but only to sixth place. A few weeks later, Aman defeated the Olympic champion at Weltklasse Zürich in 1: 42.53 minutes and, like last year, inflicted his only defeat of the season.

At the 2013 World Championships in Moscow , Aman won the gold medal in the absence of defending champion Rudisha. His next championship victory was at the 2014 Indoor World Championships in Sopot, Poland, where he successfully defended his title from Istanbul.
