Donavan Brazier (born April 15, 1997 in Grand Rapids , Michigan ) is an American track and field athlete who specializes in the 800-meter run .

Life

Donavan Brazier grew up in his native Grand Rapids, where he graduated from Kenowa Hills High School in 2015. His running talent was discovered in high school.

Since October 2018 he has been training in Portland in the context of the controversial Nike Oregon Project (NOP).

Brazier's greatest international success to date is winning the gold medal at the 2019 World Championships in Doha . With a personal best of 1: 42.34 min, he improved the 34-year-old US record set by Johnny Gray . It was also the fastest time ever run at outdoor world championships. The world's best of the year Nijel Amos was unable to take part in the competition due to injury problems.
