Johnny Gray (actually: John Lee Gray Jr .; born June 19, 1960 in Los Angeles ) is a former American 800-meter runner .

Johnny Gray reached the final of all four participations in the Olympic Games, with the bronze medal at the 1992 in Barcelona as the greatest success. He finished seventh in Los Angeles in 1984 , fifth in Seoul in 1988 and seventh in Atlanta in 1996 .

At the World Athletics Championships he reached the quarter-finals in Rome in 1987 , was sixth in Tokyo in 1991 and reached the semi-finals in Stuttgart in 1993 .

He was also seven times US American outdoor champion and won the Pan American Games in 1987 and 1999, where he was 39 years old at the latter championship.

Gray is 1.93 m tall and weighed 79 kg at competition times. His aggressive running style, which was often characterized by a high pace from the start of the race, made him a classic time hunter. Due to the calculated risk of a break-in in the final stages of the race, Gray was very popular with the audience. He was trained by Merle McGee and started for the Santa Monica TC.
