The men's 800-meter race at the 2001 World Athletics Championships was held from August 4 to 7, 2001 at the Commonwealth Stadium in the Canadian city of Edmonton .
World champion was the Swiss vice European champion from 1998 André Bucher . Silver went to the Kenyan Wilfred Bungei . The Pole Paweł Czapiewski won the bronze medal.
