The men's 1500-meter race at the 2001 World Athletics Championships was held from August 9 to 12, 2001 in the Commonwealth Stadium in the Canadian city of Edmonton .
The Moroccan Olympic runner-up in 2000, Hicham El Guerrouj , who was also vice world champion in 1995 , won his third World Cup title in a row . The Kenyan Olympic third in 2000 Bernard Lagat , who started for the USA in 2004 , won the silver medal. Bronze went to the former Moroccan Driss Maazouzi, who has been racing for France since 2000 .
