The men's pole vault at the 2001 World Athletics Championships was held on August 7 and 9, 2001 at the Commonwealth Stadium in the Canadian city of Edmonton .
The world champion was the Australian vice world champion from 1999 Dmitri Markov , who had started for Belarus until 1998 . The World Cup third in 1999 Alexander Awerbuch from Israel won the silver medal. He, too, had changed his citizenship and had mainly started as a decathlete for Russia until 1998 , bronze went to the current Olympic champion Nick Hysong from the United States .

Record improvement
The Australian world champion Dmitri Markov improved the existing World Cup record in the final on August 9th by three centimeters to 6.05 m.

qualification
August 7, 2001, 9:00 a.m.
25 participants competed in two groups for the qualifying round. The qualification height for the direct entry into the final was 5.75 m. Nobody had to approach this height, however. After thirteen jumpers had crossed 5.70 m (highlighted in light green), the qualification was canceled. All athletes who jumped 5.70 m were admitted to the final.
