final

August 24, 2015, 7:05 p.m. (1:05 p.m. CEST )

The favorite for this competition was the French world record holder , Olympic champion and European champion Renaud Lavillenie. But Lavillenie had repeatedly shown weaknesses at world championships and had never won this title. Among his strongest competitors were the German world champion and Olympic third party Raphael Holzdeppe, vice European champion Paweł Wojciechowski from Poland and the Czech European championship third Jan Kudlička. The US American World Cup fourth and 2007 world champion Brad Walker, on the other hand, was eliminated in qualifying.

The first height at which preliminary decisions in the battle for the medals were made was 5.80 m. Only four athletes were eliminated, twelve were still in the competition. For another six pole vaulters, however, the 5.80 m were too high, they each failed three times and were no longer there. Six participants tackled the next height of 5.90 m. The Canadian Shawnacy Barber, Lavillenie, the two Poles Piotr Lisek and Wojciechowski had so far failed to make any attempt. Holzdeppe had a bad jump on his account, the French Kévin Menaldo had torn twice at 5.80 m.

The 5.90 m that have now been played brought the first medal decision. Only Barber - in the first attempt - and Holzdeppe - with his third jump - were successful here. All other four jumpers were eliminated with three failed attempts each. Kévin Menaldo had the worst cards from them due to the failed attempt rule and finished sixth. The other three - Renaud Lavillenie, Piotr Lisek and Paweł Wojciechowski - were tied and finished third together, each receiving a bronze medal.

Now it was all about gold and silver for Barber and Holzdeppe at the new jump height of six meters. However, both failed three times. With that, Shawnacy Barber, who was much better after unsuccessful attempts, won the world title. Raphael Holzdeppe won the silver medal.
