Athletic career

In his first year in Leverkusen, Scherbarth rose from 4.80 m to 5.42 m and over 5.55 m in 2006 to 5.60 m in 2007.

In 2008 he improved only marginally outdoors, he set his season best of 5.61 m on August 17, 2008 in Międzyzdroje , Poland , but at the beginning of the year he had already crossed 5.75 m indoors and was third in the indoor Become a European Cup in Moscow.

A further increase came in 2009, first in the hall in February in Stuttgart with 5.76 m and then outdoors to 5.70 m at the German championships in Ulm. He was nominated for the 2009 World Championships after finishing second . Five days later, on July 9, 2009, he broke his metatarsus at the Universiade in Belgrade and had to cancel his participation in the World Championships. In the indoor season he could not start because of the consequences of the break and did not compete again until May 2010. Scherbarth improved his personal best to 5.71 m at the pole vault meeting in Engen right at the start of the season . Another broken foot with a torn ligament on June 26, 2010 prevented the start of the best of the year among German pole vaulters at the European Championships in Barcelona.

After a long break from injury, his most successful years of competition followed, with Scherbarth winning his first national title at the German Championships in 2014 in Ulm, followed by the indoor title in the 2015 indoor season . In the same year he qualified for the World Championships , where he made it to the finals after a season best in the preliminary fight (5.70 m) and finished seventh.

In 2016, Scherbarth was again German champion in Kassel with 5.70 m and, by reaching the standard, secured participation in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where he was already eliminated in qualifying. Despite fulfilling the norm, he was not nominated for the European Athletics Championships in 2018 . At the cathedral jumping in Aachen 2018, Scherbarth contested his last competition and announced the end of his career.

Scherbarth is 1.95 m tall and had a competition weight of 81 kg. His hobbies are basketball and surfing .
