Leszek climate

Leszek Klima , until his wedding Leszek Hołownia , (born March 18, 1957 in Bydgoszcz ) is a German pole vault coach . For his native Poland, he was successful as a pole vaulter himself.

Life

Klima started out as a gymnast before taking pole vaults when he was 14 . His greatest successes were a ninth place at the Junior European Championships in Athens in 1975 and fourth place in the adult category at the European Indoor Championships in San Sebastian in 1977 and ninth place at the 1979 European Indoor Championships in Vienna . His personal best was 5.40 meters.

In 1981 Klima went to Germany and joined Bayer Leverkusen . The following year, however, he had to give up competitive sport due to Achilles tendon problems. He now worked as a chemical laboratory assistant at Bayer and trained the Leverkusen pole vaulters on a fee basis. In 1995 the qualified sports teacher became national coach and in the spring of 1996 a permanent coach at Bayer Leverkusen, after Leverkusen pole vaulters had taken eight of the top ten places at the German Indoor Championships.

Leszek Klima looked after many top German athletes, including Lars Börgeling , Danny Ecker , Tim Lobinger , Malte Mohr , Tobias Scherbarth , Richard Spiegelburg , Silke Spiegelburg and Floé Kühnert .
