Silke Spiegelburg (born March 17, 1986 in Georgsmarienhütte ) is a former German pole vaulter . She holds the German record at 4.82 m (as of June 2019).
career path
Spiegelburg studied health economics and completed her studies as a Bachelor of Science at the University of Cologne .
Athletic career
Spiegelburg won the gold medal at the 2001 World Youth Championships in Debrecen (U18) and the 2003 European Junior Championships in Tampere (U20). At the age of 18 she qualified for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens , where she finished 13th. In 2005 she became German champion, won in the same year at the U20 European Championships in Kaunas again gold and broke on 26 August 2005 in Münster with 4.48 m the junior world record by Yelena Isinbayeva .
At the 2006 World Indoor Championships in Moscow , Spiegelburg was eighth, defended her national title and was sixth at the 2006 European Championships in Gothenburg . In 2007 she was again German champion, but failed at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka in the final at the starting height.
On July 11, 2008, Spiegelburg set a personal best with a height of 4.70 m at the Golden League meeting in Rome . Shortly thereafter, she was nominated for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing , where she finished seventh with 4.65 m. At the end of the 2008 season she won the IAAF world finals in athletics in Stuttgart , where she again crossed 4.70 m. At the 2009 World Championships in Berlin , she took fourth place, with 4.65 m jumping over the same height as the two runner-up Monika Pyrek (Poland) and Chelsea Johnson (USA), but required one more try. At the 2009 European Indoor Championships in Turin , she improved the German indoor record by four centimeters to 4.75 m and won the silver medal. On June 26, 2010, she improved her personal best by one centimeter to 4.71 m. A short time later she was again German champion and a month later second at the European Championships 2010 in Barcelona . Another improvement in the hall was achieved in 2011 at the hall meeting in Karlsruhe , when she mastered 4.76 m.
At the German Championships 2012 in the Bochum district of Wattenscheid , she was German champion with 4.70 m. At the European Championships in Helsinki in 2012 , she was fourth with a height of 4.50 m. On July 20, 2012, she won the jumping at the Diamond League Meeting in Monaco and set a new German record with a jump of 4.82 m . At the Olympic Games in London in 2012 , she only finished fourth. On September 7, 2012, she won the final of the Diamond League in Brussels with a skipped 4.75 m and thus won the overall ranking of the series as in 2011.
At the 2013 World Championships in Moscow , Spiegelburg finished fourth with 4.75 m, just like at the European Championships and the Olympic Games. As in the two previous years, she won the $ 40,000 overall ranking in the Diamond League . With a season best of 4.79 m, she overtook Diamond Race leader Yarisley Silva at the end of the season in Zurich . In 2014 she became German indoor champion with a jumped height of 4.61 m, and was seventh at the World Indoor Championships in Sopot with 4.65 m.
In 2015 Spiegelburg reached third place at the German Championships and became Vice-Team European Champion , to which she contributed by winning the pole vault with a championship record of 4.75 m. With this height, it also led the German best list at the end of the year. In 2016 Spiegelburg was German indoor champion .
In 2017 she became German runner- up with 4.55 m and thus also fulfilled the standard for the World Championships in London , where she was eliminated with 4.35 m and 14th place in the qualification. In mid-January 2018, Spiegelburg had to end the indoor season due to an inflammation in her foot, which caused her to miss the home European championships in Berlin .
On October 1, 2018, Spiegelburg announced the end of her sporting career.
Silke Spiegelburg was 1.73 m tall and had a competition weight of 62 kg.
Club affiliations
Spiegelburg was a member of TV Lengerich until 2005, and since then she has been playing for TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen . For many years her coach was Leszek Klima and her father Ansgar Spiegelburg. Most recently she trained with Micky Corucle and her brother Richard Spiegelburg in Stuttgart.
family
Her three brothers Henrik, Christian and Richard Spiegelburg also did the pole vault. Her mother Frederike was a pentathlete and a 400-meter hurdle runner. In 2019, Silke Spiegelburg became a mother.
