German track and field national records

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Marita Koch (left) and Marlies Göhr (right) hold most of the German records in the sprint area.

The German national track and field records are the best performances of German athletes who have been set up in disciplines of track and field .

The records listed here only take into account top performances for which the international athletics association IAAF holds official world records. The following lists do not differentiate according to whether a German athlete started at the time the respective record was set for the Federation of the Federal Republic of Germany ( DLV ) or the German Democratic Republic ( DVfL ). Achievements that are also current world or European records are marked with corresponding pictograms ( Current world recordand Current European record).

Top performances in the context of the German athletics championships are listed there.

Doping issue

In response to the move by Ines Geipel , who deleted her name from the German club record for the 4-by-100-meter relay because of her involuntary involvement in the doping system of the GDR , the DLV added a preamble to its official statistics in 2006:

“In the following record list, according to current knowledge, some record holders are suspected of having violated the anti-doping rules during their competitive sports career. In addition, some of the records were set on the basis of forced doping and doping in the form of criminally relevant bodily harm. [...] It is not possible to delete such records for legal reasons. "

The association refers to the book Doping as sources . From Research to fraud by Brigitte Berendonk (1991), in which the state-organized doping in the GDR on the basis of dissertations and Stasi was reconstructed -Proceedings, as well as the 2006 published work doping in professional sports and Andreas Singler and Gerhard Treutlein where the forms of doping practiced at the same time in the Federal Republic of Germany were documented using the example of athletics and other sports.

The opinion of the DLV that the cancellation of doping-laden records is not legally possible, contradicted the sports lawyers Christoph Wüterich and Marius Breucker in an expert opinion. The then chairman of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Richard Pound shared this view.

In 2010 Gesine Walther (now Tettenborn) had her name removed from the 4 x 400 meter relay record because it was achieved through doping. In an interview, she said that if she had continued to tolerate her name being listed there, she would be “partly responsible for young athletes who dope because they are motivated to break this record”.
