Robert Ihly

Robert Ihly (born May 5, 1963 in Asbestos , Russian SFSR , Soviet Union ) is a former German athlete and Olympic participant.

Career

Until 1988 Ihly went to the army sports club Alma-Ata . In February 1989 he moved to Germany as a repatriate and joined the LFV Schutterwald , from 1992 he started for the LG Offenburg . In 1989 Ihly won his first German championship title in 50 km walking , in 1990 he won over 20 kilometers as well as over 50 kilometers. After reunification , Ihly faced strong competition from walkers from the GDR such as Axel Noack , Ronald Weigel and Hartwig Gauder , but with two exceptions was able to win a national title every year and was also present at the international highlight of the season. He achieved his best results at world championships, where he placed three times among the top eight athletes. In addition, he achieved seventh place at the 1992 European Indoor Championships. At the Olympic Games, an eleventh place in 1992 over 20 kilometers remained his best performance, after 17th place in 1996 he competed over 50 kilometers in Sydney in 2000, but gave up on the way.

In 1990 Ihly set several DLV records for walking on the track, his last German record in 1996 was 3:52:46 h over 50,000 meters on the track. At a height of 1.75 m, Ihly's competition weight was 65 kg. Ihly is a trained hydraulic engineer, in addition to his job at a construction company, Ihly is still active in walking as a Baden association trainer for walkers.
