Maurice Huke (born February 25, 1993 in Bochum / North Rhine-Westphalia ) is a German athlete who specializes in sprints and relay races.

career path

Maurice Huke works as a real estate agent , but does not have a full-time position, so he can coordinate work and sport well.

Athletic career

In his youth, Huke played soccer at SG Wattenscheid 09 . As a schoolboy he competed in athletics, led the Westphalian best list in 2006 in the 60-meter hurdles and in 2008 over the 80-meter hurdles. Likewise with the 4 x 100 meter relay . In 2009 Huke was fastest of the year in the 200-meter run . In this and the following years he became champion or runner-up over 60 and 200 meters as well as with the 4 x 100 meter relay at Westphalian championships indoors and outdoors in the youth area.

2011 was the most successful year for Huke to date. Internationally, he took part in the U20 European Championships in Tallinn with the 4 x 100 meter relay and took 3rd place with this at the U23 European Championships in Ostrava . Nationally Huke became German U23 runner-up with the relay and reached 4th place at the German U20 championships with her . Over the 200-meter distance, he came in three third places; at the German indoor youth championships , the German U23 championships and the German U20 championships .

In 2012 Huke had to cancel his participation in the U20 World Championships in Barcelona due to an injury. It was only in 2014 that he was able to win a championship title again, with the 4 x 100 meter relay at the German U23 championships . But injuries and illnesses threw him back again and made it difficult for the active to get started.

The stubborn streak of bad luck only ended in 2016. At the German championships with the 4 x 100 meter relay, Huke won the championship title in the adult class for the first time and took 5th place over the 200 meters.

In 2017 he had already won two titles at the Westphalian indoor championships in Dortmund and set two personal bests before stepping on all three steps of the podium at the German indoor championships : for the championship title with the 4 x 200 meter relay, for the runner-up title over 60 meters and for 3rd place over the 200 meters.

In 2018, Huke still wants to concentrate on the short sprint, but in the long term to try out the 400-meter distance. At the German Indoor Championships in Dortmund in 2018 , he won the silver medal over the 200 meters in a time of 21.07 s.
