Werner Schildhauer won the world championship qualification in 1983 over 10,000 meters with the new GDR record of 27: 24.95 min.

Werner Schildhauer (born June 5, 1959 in Dessau ) is a German athlete and Olympic participant.

Schildhauer took in 1980 for East Germany at the Olympic Games in Moscow in the 10,000-meter race in part, finishing in seventh place. At the European Championships in 1982 he won the silver medals in the 5000-meter run and the 10,000-meter run. At the world championships in 1983 he won a silver medal in the 5000-meter run and a silver medal in the 10,000-meter run for the GDR. On May 28, 1983, he set a GDR record in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 27:24.95 minutes, which was also the German record for a long time and was only beaten by Dieter Baumann almost 14 years later . Also in 1983, on April 29th in Cottbus , he set the German hourly record of 20,536 meters, which is still valid today .

Werner Schildhauer started for the SC Chemie Halle ; his longstanding athletic rival in the GDR was Hansjörg Kunze .

He had a competition weight of 66 kg with a height of 1.82 m.
