Karl Fleschen (born June 28, 1955 in Daun , Eifel ) is a former German athlete and Olympic participant who was successful in the 1500-meter run and long-distance run in the 1970s .

On August 17, 1977 he was involved in a world record in the 4 x 1,500 meter relay race in Cologne (14: 38.8 min: Thomas Wessinghage , Harald Hudak , Michael Lederer , Karl Fleschen). The run was held during the half-time break of a Bundesliga soccer match in the Müngersdorfer Stadium . This brand had the oldest athletics world record to 4 September 2009 Balance at which in Brussels a Kenyan quartet ( William Biwott Tanui , Gideon Gathimba , Geoffrey Kipkoech Rono , Augustine Kiprono Choge ) undercut him by more than two and a half seconds (14:36, 23 min).

In the 25 km road race on April 16, 1978, Fleschen set a record for the DLV with 1:13:58 h . The record was not recognized internationally because the route was probably too short. On long distances he was nine times German champion of the Federal Republic.

He initially belonged to the sports club LG Vulkaneifel , in 1977 he moved to Bayer 04 Leverkusen . During his competition time he was 1.77 m tall and 63 kg.
