Ingo Sensburg (born January 27, 1949 in Berlin-Kreuzberg ) is a former German long-distance runner and police officer (most recently police chief of the protection police).

Sporting successes

With 166 Berlin championship titles, Sensburg is the most successful Berlin athlete of all time. In 1970 he became German runner-up over 1500 meters in the hall . His greatest successes in the indoor arena were over 3000 meters : in 1976 he became European indoor champion over this distance in Munich , and at the German championships he came third three times (1975, 1976 and 1978) and once second (1979). In the open air he came on the podium twice at German championships: in 1975 he was runner-up in cross-country skiing and in 1976 he was third over 10,000 meters . It was mostly trained by Fred Behrnsen , who, in addition to extensive runs on the road or in the forest, favored a large number of repetitions on the track and was thus ahead of his time.

As a local hero, he dominated the Berlin marathon in the Grunewald era with three wins (1976, 1979 and 1980), a mark that Haile Gebrselassie first equalized in 2008, and later the SCC half marathon with four wins (1985-1988). In 1976 he won the Essen marathon around the Baldeneysee .

In total, he has won around 200 championship titles so far.
