José Luis González (athlete)

José Luis González ( José Luis González Sánchez ; born December 8, 1957 in Villaluenga de la Sagra , Toledo province ) is a former Spanish middle and long-distance runner .

Life

His strongest discipline was the 1,500 meter run . Over this distance he celebrated the greatest success of his career at the World Athletics Championships in Rome in 1987 , when he won the silver medal behind Abdi Bile and ahead of Jim Spivey . He took part in the Olympic Games three times: in 1980 in Moscow he reached the semi-finals, in 1984 in Los Angeles and 1992 in Barcelona he was eliminated in the preliminary stages. At the European Athletics Championships in 1990 in Split he was sixth, at the 1991 World Championships in Tokyo, he came to the semi-finals. In addition, González was three times indoor European champion, once indoor vice world champion and four times Spanish champion over 1500 m.

In the 3000 meter run , González was indoor European champion in 1987 in Liévin and in 1988 in Budapest, and in 1989 in Budapest indoor vice world champion. He was once Spanish champion in the 5000-meter run and twice in cross-country running on the long distance. In 1983 and 1987 he won the San Silvestre Vallecana .

José Luis González is 1.80 m tall and weighed 63 kg during his playing days.
