Henryk Szordykowski

Henryk Szordykowski ( Henryk Jan Szordykowski ; born June 3, 1944 in Iłowo-Osada ) is a former Polish middle-distance runner .

At the European Athletics Championships in Budapest in 1966 , he was eighth over 1500 m . In 1968 he retired at the Olympic Games in Mexico City over 800 m in the preliminary run and was seventh over 1500 m.

In 1969 he won silver over 800 m and gold in the mixed relay at the European Indoor Games in Belgrade . Bronze over 1500 m followed at the European Championships in Athens .

The following year he won the European Athletics Indoor Championships in 1970 in Vienna over 1500 m. In 1971 he defended this title at the European Indoor Championships in Sofia and won silver at the European Championships in Helsinki .

At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, he reached the semi-finals over 1500 m. At the European Indoor Championships he won two more gold medals over this distance in 1973 in Rotterdam and 1974 in Gothenburg ; at the European Indoor Championships in 1975 in Katowice, he was sixth.

He was Polish champion over 800 m three times (1966, 1967, 1969) and four times over 1500 m (1968, 1971, 1972, 1974). In 1974 he won the national title over 1500 m indoors. He was also US champion in the mile run in 1969 and 1971 .
