Iwan Tarasowytsch Heschko ( Ukrainian Іван Тарасович Гешко , English transcription Ivan Heshko ; born August 19, 1979 in Chernivtsi ) is a Ukrainian middle-distance runner .

Ivan Heschko set Ukrainian records in the 1,500-meter run and the mile in 2004 and has won five medals at international championships since 2003.

Career

After 11th place at the Junior World Championships in 1998 and 4th place at the U23 European Championships in 1999, Heschko took part in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney , but was eliminated in the run-up. At the U23 European Championships in 2001, Heschko won silver in 3: 39.37 minutes behind the German Wolfram Müller . In Munich at the European Championships in 2002 , Heschko was eliminated again in the preliminary run.

His breakthrough in the adult class came at the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham in 2003 , when he was fifth in a slow race in 3: 44.56 minutes. In the summer of the 2003 World Championships in Paris he won bronze in 3: 33.17 minutes behind Hicham El Guerrouj (MAR) and Mehdi Baala (FRA).
