Gabriele Reinsch

Gabriele Reinsch (born September 23, 1963 in Cottbus , GDR ), married Kramer, is a former German athlete and Olympian who started for the GDR and was successful in the discus throw .

On July 9, 1988, she achieved a world record of 76.80 m ( 76.80 m - 73.10 - invalid - 70.56 - 70.06 - 71.98) at the international athletics match GDR - Italy in Neubrandenburg , with the she improved the old record of Zdeňka Šilhavá ( ČSSR ) by 2.24 meters. This performance is unmatched to this day (as of May 2020). (The GDR athlete Martina Hellmann achieved widths of 76.92 m and 78.14 m in an unofficial competition on September 6, 1988, but these are not recognized as world records).

Gabriele Reinsch began athletics at the age of 14 and first tried the high jump and the shot put (second place at the Junior European Championships in 1981). In 1982 she switched entirely to discus throwing. In the year of her world record, she improved by 9.62 meters - from 67.18 m (personal best in 1987) to 76.80 m.

Gabriele Reinsch belonged to SC Cottbus until 1985 , from 1986 to ASK Potsdam (coach: Lothar Hillebrand ). During her competition time she was 1.84 m tall and 88 kg heavy.
