Automobile salesman

The automobile salesman has been a state-recognized training occupation in Germany since 1998 under the Vocational Training Act . The profession of automobile salesman is tailored to the organizational, information technology, service technology and business management requirements of the automotive industry, with the automobile and its market in the foreground. Automotive salespeople mainly work in dealerships in the motor vehicle trade or for manufacturers and importers of motor vehicles.

In Switzerland, the Swiss Federal Diploma in Automobile Business Administration is a further education which leads to a higher technical examination .

Duration of training

The training usually lasts three years and takes place in the dual system . This means that the training takes place at the company and vocational school . A shortening is possible under certain conditions. Possible reasons for shortening the training period are particularly good performance at the vocational school, a special school leaving certificate (for example a business school certificate) or the crediting of vocational training. The prerequisite is that the training company and the responsible IHK / HwK agree. It can be shortened to 2 years.

Area of ​​responsibility

During the training the budding car salesman learns all commercial functions of a car dealership know, but also basic technical knowledge about the functioning of the automobile is the trainees taught. The areas of responsibility include:

During the training to become an automobile salesman, both an intermediate examination in the middle of the second year of training and a final examination must be passed.

graduation

The final examination consists of four examination subjects, with three examination subjects being in writing (sales and services, financial services, economics and social studies) and one examination subject being oral (practical exercises).

Training allowance and salary

The amount of the apprenticeship remuneration depends on the year of the apprenticeship: in the first year of apprenticeship it averages € 545 in Germany, in the second year of apprenticeship a remuneration of around € 580 is paid and in the third year of apprenticeship a prospective automotive salesman receives around € 610.

The average starting gross salary of a trained automotive salesman varies in Germany between 1,800 and 2,400 €.

Switzerland

In Switzerland, further training to become a federally certified automobile salesman requires further training as an automotive diagnostician , automobile sales consultant or customer service advisor in the automotive industry (all with a federal certificate ) or a technical college degree in automotive engineering. The training itself lasts 4 semesters while working.

Automotive salespeople are positioned as managers. It is also possible to run your own business or branch.

history

The regulations for the "master craftsman's examination in the automotive trade" came into force on September 3, 1984.

The "Regulations on the Higher Technical Examination for Graduated Automobile Mechanics", which are essentially still valid today, dates from May 3, 1995. The former designation of qualified auto mechanics can still be found today.

On January 1, 2002, today's regulations came into force, whereby essentially only the article "Title and Publication" was changed and the title of Federal Automobile Salesman was introduced.
