Zdeňka Šilhavá

Zdeňka Šilhavá (born Kusá, divorced Bartoňová; born June 15, 1954 in Krnov ) is a former Czech discus thrower and shot putter .

In the shot put she was starting for Czechoslovakia , she was seventh at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in 1977 in San Sebastián. In 1978 she was fifth at the European Indoor Championships in Milan and ninth at the 1978 European Athletics Championships in Prague.

At the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow she was tenth in the shot put and eleventh in the discus throw , and at the European Championships in Athens in 1982 she came ninth in the shot put and 13th place in the discus throw.

In 1983 she won bronze in the shot put at the European Indoor Championships in Budapest . At the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki she was sixth in the discus throw and ninth in the shot put.

In 1984 the boycott of Czechoslovakia prevented participation in the Olympic Games in Los Angeles. In the alternate friendship competitions, she won bronze in the discus throw. Shortly afterwards she set a world record with 74.56 m.

In 1985 she was banned from doping with anabolic steroids . After that she was sixth in the discus throw at the 1987 World Cup in Rome.

At the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, she was sixth in discus throw and eleventh in shot put .

After a break from competition of several years, she started in the 1990s in the discus throw for the Czech Republic. At the 1993 World Cup in Stuttgart she was eliminated from qualifying, and at the 1994 European Championship in Helsinki she was twelfth. At the 1995 World Cup in Gothenburg and the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, she did not get beyond the preliminary round.

She was Czechoslovakian champion six times (1981–1985, 1987) and twice Czech champion (1995, 1999) in discus throwing. In the shot put she was once Czechoslovakian champion (1980), five times Czech champion (1995-1997, 1999, 2000), three times Czechoslovak indoor champion (1979, 1980, 1983) and six times Czech indoor champion (1993, 1995-1998, 2000).

She is married to the discus thrower Josef Šilhavý .
