The Villa Sträuli is a listed building opposite the Stadtgarten at Museumstrasse 60 in Winterthur . It was built between 1908 and 1911 in the neo-baroque style by Völki & Bridler for the chief judge and mayor of Winterthur Hans Sträuli and was later renovated by the Winterthur architect Ernst Zollinger . The villa acts as an event location .

Events

The premises can be rented and a bistro is available. The following series of events take place in the house: Saturday matinée (every Saturday morning), Hörsalon (monthly radio plays and literary concerts), Kultursalon (~ monthly with various partners) and Meet the Artist. The program committee consists of the head of the house, Annelise Schmid, of Ruth and Roger Girod , both members of the foundation board.

Artist-in-residence program

Sträuli's daughter-in-law Doris Sträuli-Keller, daughter of the theologian and ecumenist Adolf Keller , founded the private charitable foundation Sulzberg here in 1999 to maintain the property and to promote culture . As part of an international artist-in-residence program, also supported by the city of Winterthur, the foundation has enabled three cultural workers to stay for several weeks at a time. There are three studios with living and working areas available. The management of the house is advised by an artistic commission when selecting the recipients. Currently, in 2020/21, the following people belong to it: Dorothee Richter , Merly Knoerle, Werner Widmer, Yusuf Yeşilöz and Simone Keller . Among the alumni of the program are Russudan Meipariani (2008), Oksana Sabuschko (2009), Traudl Bünger (2009), Anschelina Polonskaja (2011), Alexander Peer (2012), Ruth Hommelsheim (2013), Qiu Anxiong (2014), Najem Wali (2015), Sabine Gruber (2015), Christian Futscher (2016), Anja Kampmann (2017), Silvia Fómina (2017) and Anna Kim (2017).

Cooperations

The Villa Sträuli works together with various organizers: For example, concerts from the musica aperta series have been held in the house since 2015 . Furthermore, the Molton Festival of the Theater am Gleis gives guest performances on site. The In Guitar Festival Winterthur also has a venue in the Villa Sträuli. Since 2016 the villa has been awarding a stay at the Locarno Film Festival together with the Winterthur International Short Film Festival . Since 2015, the house has provided the Swiss Authors Association with a studio for one month. Another cooperation exists within the framework of international cultural exchanges with the Pro Helvetia Foundation .
