Theater on the track

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Theater am Gleis is a cabaret theater founded in 1979 by the Initiative Menschen association in Winterthur , Switzerland .

history

Operations began in an old factory building at 18 Paulstrasse. The aim was to promote cabaret and children's theater. The factory hall behind the main train station served as inspiration for the naming. The buildings were demolished in 1989. The performances were temporarily held outdoors under a tent. In 1990 a new venue was found, the “Loge” on Oberen Graben. Seven years later the theater had become too big for the “Lodge” and moved. The new building is located on Untere Vogelsangstrasse and thus again in the immediate vicinity of the main train station.

In 2002 it received the city of Winterthur's culture award, endowed with CHF 10,000, for its services in the cultural field .

The theater is managed by Werner Weilenmann (President), Max E. Keller (Vice President) and Heidi Bachmann.
